Adverse media screening

Searching public reporting for negative coverage of an applicant that formal lists would not show.

Adverse media checks look for credible reporting linking an applicant to fraud, financial crime, or other conduct relevant to the decision. It catches what has been reported but not yet acted on by an authority.

It is also the noisiest of the screening checks: common names produce unrelated matches, and stale articles resurface. Treat the output as a prompt for review rather than a verdict, and record the reviewer's conclusion alongside the hit.
